Abstract: With the wave of intersection between artificial intelligence and medicine, large language models (LLMs) are widely used in fields such as diagnosis and treatment, medicine, and healthcare due to their outstanding performance. LLM has unique advantages in the field of traditional Chinese medicine, such as the perfect combination with the "Four Diagnostic Methods", the perfect combination of natural language and self supervised learning in traditional Chinese medicine, the ability to adapt to the characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine formulas, and assistance in traditional Chinese medicine diagnosis and treatment. At present, various LLM models have been developed, such as the "Qihuang Ask Big Model" and the Digital Traditional Chinese Medicine Big Model "GLM-130B", but they also face challenges such as value mismatch and medical abuse, increased demand for interpretability, technology needs to be improved, and domestic policy access. This article reviews the development history of LLM, the unique advantages and applications of LLM in the field of traditional Chinese medicine, the problems and challenges of LLM, and the future development trends of LLM, in order to provide reference for the further promotion of LLM in traditional medicine.
