Abstract:
Liu Shih-Hao, the founder of endocrinology in China, used rats as research objects to conduct experimental research on the regulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis when he was studying in the UK in the late 1930s. This point has not been received enough attention, so this paper intends to introduce the basic situation of this series of studies, and place this series of relatively micro medical history events in Liu Shih-Hao's personal academic history and the research situation of endocrinology at that time, as well as the larger social and historical background, to conduct a relatively macro investigation. Then, by linking and exploring the pituitary hormone series research with Liu Shih-Hao's report "The Direction of Endocrine Research Development" made more than 20 years later, these two historical events that are far apart, to reveal the rich medical historical significance of the series research. In order to further supplement and present Liu Shih-Hao's personal academic history and even the establishment and development history of endocrinology in China.
