A Sketch of Medicine and Society in the Era of Republican China: Social Service Department of Peking Union Medical College Hospital

摘要: 北京协和医院社会服务部是我国历史上第一个医务社会服务部门, 亦是我国大陆地区和台湾省医务社会工作的源头。本文介绍了北京协和医院社会服务部的历史概况和工作情况, 旨在增进医学界同仁对其了解, 希望从历史和人文层面强调在医疗过程中关注患者社会心理病因的重要性。

Abstract: The Social Service Department of Peking Union Medical College Hospital was the first department that ever established medical social work in China. It also was the origin of the practice of medical social work in the mainland and Taiwan of China. A brief introduction of the history and working procedure of the department was given to promote a better understanding of it. The author would like to emphasize the importance of paying attention to the social-psychological causes of diseases as well.
