Research Progress in Fall Prevention and Management in Older Adults from an Integrated Person-Time-Space Perspective

  • Falls are common and serious adverse events among older adults. Existing fallrisk assessments often rely on static indicators and single time-point measurements, which may not adequately account for the dynamic fluctuations in fall risk across specific temporal, spatial, and individual conditions. This limitation may constrain precise early warning and proactive intervention in community settings. From an integrated person-time-space perspective, this article reviews the theoretical basis of this framework, synthesizes evidence on the interactions between person and time, person and space, and time and space, and summarizes recent progress in dynamic assessment, contextualized intervention, and coordinated implementation. This review may help shift fall prevention research for older adults from unidimensional factor analysis and static risk identification toward a more systematic understanding of dynamic fall-risk processes, and may provide theoretical support for optimizing community-based fall prevention strategies and management models.
