Abstract:
Interest-holder engagement is an essential component of developing clinical practice guidelines (hereafter,“guidelines” ),and guideline developers should systematically engage diverse interest-holders groups. The RIGHT-MuSE checklist is designed to standardize the scientific, comprehensive, and transparent reporting of interest-holder engagement in guidelines. The checklist comprises 11 items that address the guiding documents underpinning engagement, modes of engagement, characteristics of interest-holders,evaluation of the engagement process, and the disclosure and management of engagement-related conflicts of interest and funding. This article explicates each RIGHT-MuSE item and provides illustrative examples to help guideline developers better understand and apply the checklist to scientifically report the full process of interest-holder engagement during guideline development, while also providing guideline users with a framework for assessing the rigor and transparency of that process.
